Port of Hvide Sande is located at the position North Sea 56°00,0'N 8°07,8'E. Nautical chart no. 99, 93.

The entrance to Port of Hvide Sande faces directly out to the North Sea and is protected by two breakwaters. The water depth at the entrance is up to 7 meters in the leading lines.

The entrance is marked with leading lights:

  • White: Iso. 2s, course 61°
  • Red: Iso. 4s, course 77.8°

You can navigate the harbor both day and night.

The difference between mean high water and mean low water is 0.6 meters.

The maximum allowed speed in the harbor basins is 3 knots.

The navigation conditions to the harbor are good and stable for the largest part of the year.

The harbor is always free of ice regardless of frost degrees due to the current through the sluice to Ringkøbing Fjord.

Port of Hvide Sande consists of the following harbor sections

 

Three harbor sections west of the sluices

  • West Harbor
  • South Harbor with two basins
  • North Harbor

East of the sluices in Ringkøbing Fjord, there are two harbor sections

  • East Harbor
  • German Harbor

Depths in the basins

  • West Harbor: 7 meters
  • Quay 11: 7 meters
  • North Harbor: 7 and 4 meters
  • South Harbor: 7 and 3.5 meters

 

Pilot

The pilot service at Port of Hvide Sande is provided by DanPilot.

Vessels whose masters are not familiar with the conditions can take a pilot or, prior to entering or departing, seek information from the harbor watch about the current conditions.

Supervision of vessels

Vessels must be equipped with fenders.

If vessels that are not based in the harbor leave, it must be reported to the harbor watch who is supervising the vessel.

The depths in the entrance and in the harbor basins may deviate from our information, the official nautical charts, and navigational guides due to siltation.

The specified depths will be maintained as far as possible through dredging.

 

Port of Hvide Sande will, to the greatest extent possible, inform about changes in navigation conditions. However, our users and customers are encouraged to always stay informed about current conditions by contacting the harbor watch.
