Hvide Sande Harbor receives funding for new quay facility

It was a delightful email that arrived at the port in Hvide Sande on Sunday morning. It was from the Danish Transport Authority, which announced a grant of 8.6 million DKK for new quay areas from the Port Fund 2022.

The Ministry of Transport had received 28 project proposals totaling 176 million DKK for the Port Fund of 50 million DKK. “We are therefore happy and proud that the Danish Transport Authority has chosen our project and allocated the 8.6 million DKK for our new Quay Facilities,” says Port Director Poul Erik Jessen. “This is entirely in line with our Strategy 2025, that we must operate and develop the port to the benefit of our customers, where the new quay facility and back areas create the framework for jobs and growth in Hvide Sande. We must continuously adapt the port's resources and facilities to the opportunities that arise within our existing and new business areas.”

Hvide Sande Port is already in the process of clearing and preparing areas next to Vattenfall's new Offshore O&M center. The new quay project, back areas, and road traffic will contribute to connecting the entire area so that a flexible and dedicated Offshore base is created, where Hvide Sande Port can match and handle the upcoming large energy projects in the North Sea.
It is expected that the state will offer an additional 3 Offshore Wind Farms during the spring of 2023. A tender for 3 x 1GW parks located just off Hvide Sande Port. These wind farms are planned to be established by 2030, and Hvide Sande Port is therefore working purposefully towards the Land Use Plan that will support capacity and dynamics for the development of the Offshore business area. Here, the new quay facility is an important factor, and we are therefore very pleased that the support from the Danish Transport Authority contributes to this development.

The Danish Transport Authority has emphasized in the allocation that the project meets the criteria of the Port Fund to solve traffic and capacity challenges, and that Hvide Sande Port has already been chosen as an established service port for wind farms in the North Sea

Facts:

In the Infrastructure Plan 2035, a Port Fund 2022 was agreed, where Danish Commercial Ports could apply for a grant of up to 50% of the project cost for example for the establishment of quay facilities, breakwaters, road infrastructure at the port, and possible infrastructure for shore power.

There has been a great interest in the port fund, and the parties behind the agreement have approved the allocation of a total of 49.5 million DKK to 10 projects. (The Danish Transport Authority reserves 0.5 million DKK for the administration of the fund)
The total project sum is approximately 109 million DKK, including the ports' own payment.
A total of 28 projects had applied for grants totaling 176.3 million DKK by the application deadline.

It is the Danish Transport Authority that administers the Port Fund.
